Summer in the Rockies Series
I took a trip through the Canadian Rockies in June / July 2026…. whilst the weather didn’t live up to expectations (rain, cloud, fog, even some snow), the views certainly did. Travelling through Jasper, Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore and Kootenay’s, we explored the recovering fire-damaged landscape, spectacular peaks and crystal clear lakes.
Sketches
Throughout the trip, I took ink sketches of the views. Whilst I have fantasies of doing these plein-air in situ, this proved almost impossible due to the rain and an impatient dog; therefore, photos and subsequent evening sketches of each peak were drawn. These formed the backbone and inspiration for the painting style and look of the paintings that followed.
Paintings
The series contains 6 Original Oil Paintings, including two smaller colour studies and four larger pieces. Each piece features a view intended to capture the feeling and experience of visiting that location, whilst incorporating elements of the previously drawn line sketches.
